2014 Fashion Trends: Plaid vs. Tartan

2014 Fashion Trends: Plaid vs. Tartan
credit: asos.com, nastygal.com

If you're tring to figure out which kind of plaid to wear this winter, that answer is easy: both! However, if you only have enough money in your budget and you can only shop for one, then it depends on your fashion sense.

Firstly, plaid vs. tartain - what's the difference? Well, tartan is a kind of plaid (just as a square is a kind of a rectangle). Plaid can come in all colors and stripe widths - plaid can have a (traditional) red color scheme, green color scheme, or can even be a mixture of pinks. However, tartan is usually and traditionall either green or red and the stripe widths do not vary much. Another way to visualize it is by thinking of the traditonal catholic school girl's uniform skirt

So here's how figure out which plaid (or tartan) fashion trend to go with. If you want something way more versatiel, go with an easy red plaid (shown on the right above, by NastyGal.com). It looks better with denim and can go from a day to night look easily. But if you want the trend but want to stand out from the crowd. go with green tartan (as shown above on the left, by asos.com). Green tartan looks beautiful when paired with black and has a high-end euro look that makes for a beautiful night-time look (imagine black skinnies paired with black patent Christian Louboutin round toe pumps! Ouch!!!). Which side you end up in the battle of Plaid Vs. Tartan, be sure to send us a pic of your wonderful outfit and we may feature it on our blog! A Happy 2013 Plaid Fashion Trend to to you all!

2013 Fall Plaid Trend Coats

via Zara.com

I am literally dying over the plaid coat trend, aren't you! It's one of the best fashion trends to hit the runways for years! And it's so wearable! The 3 standout coats of the 2013 Fall Plaid Trend Coat are designed by Zara (above), Celine (below), and Stella McCartney (bottom). My personal favorite is the Plaid Check Coat by Zara because the colors are bold and stand out more. The coat is also predominantly grey and serves as a lovely back-drop for the blue and red checked pattern.

The other 2 highly sought after coats of the 2013 Fall Plaid Trend Coats are the Celine and Stella McCartney coats. The Stella McCartney plaid coat is probably beautiful in person. The colors are soft and demure. The Celine coat, frankly (and you'll agree with me on this one) looks like a shopping baaaaag! LOL! Doesn't it? You know it does. It looks like a fruit stand plaid shopping bag! (if you live in a big city, you've definitely seen these before). But that's not to take away from it's trendiness. If you step on the scene in any one of these coats, you will be granted fashion respect, and that's a fact!

Which one if your favorite Plaid Coat of the 2013 Fall Plaid Trend Coats?
